4 Suggestions for a getaway from Milan

If you are in Milan for more than few days, why not to use the strategic location of the Lombardy’s capital and go for a daily getaway to the mountains, some of the many lakes or spend a day on the beach. Here are my suggestions:
1. Lago Maggiore

It’s not accidentally that Lago Maggiore is my suggestion number 1. This lake, which is located between Italy and Switzerland, presents a perfect mix of the Italian culture and architecture and Swiss natural beauty, will definitely be a breathtaking experience.
Located only an hour train ride from Milan, you will find the small town of Stresa, the most beautiful one on the lake, from where you can visit the most interesting and stunning attractions, such as the island Isola Bella.

2. Torino

Juventus, Fiat, Winter Olympics…those are some of the association that probably cross your mind when I mention Torino, but did you know that this city was the first Italian capital, that it was the birthplace of Italian cinematography, and that it is called ‘the capital of chocolate’? There are many beautiful sights to see and interesting stuff to do in this amazing city located on the banks of Po River.

The city has a rich culture and history, and is known for its numerous art galleries, museums, restaurants, palaces, opera houses, piazzas, parks, theatres, and other venues, so there is something for everyone’s taste.

3. Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre, UNESCOs World Heritage site, is comprised of five small fishing villages (Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare, Riomaggiore, Vernazza) accessible only by train. In each of the 5 towns, colorful houses and vineyards hold on to steep terraces, harbors are filled with fishing boats and trattorias prepare seafood specialties along with the Liguria region’s famous sauce, pesto. Isn’t that enough to choose this place for your daily getaway? 😊

 4. Coast of Liguria

I’m a huge fan of Liguria’s coast, and I’ve visited some of the main places like Genova and Cinque Terre, which belong to the eastern part of it. Western coast, which spread from Genova to the border with France, is less popular and attractive to tourists, but surely not less beautiful. To be precise, the small town Albissola Marina was the one whose beauty took my heart. It all started spontaneously, searching for a dog’s beach where I would take my furry pet for a swim. I found one in this typical Italian seaside village, and only expected to spend a relaxing day with Badi on the beach. However, I was surprised and amazed how can such a small village not found on any tourist map, leave such a big impression. Probably, that’s why the best things happen when they are not planned 😊
